Introduction to Envelope Analysis for Forma

The following information will explain the FenestraPro Envelope Analysis extension for Autodesk Forma. This allows analysis of your Forma project for Heat Gain, Daylight and Shading results as well as allowing you to set Window to Wall ratios for different areas of the model, defining Construction Types for model elements, selecting a reference Energy Code and providing Charts for results. FenestraPro’s Conceptual Mass tool in the latest Revit versions is being retired and this extension for Forma will continue support for early stage models.

add extension to Forma

Install easily from the Autodesk App Store and analyze your project instantly. FenestraPro Envelope Analysis is currently available free to Forma users for a limited period.

Explore and Apply Facade Design Options

Visualize and apply window to wall ratio, alternative glazing distributions and shading strategies for the model in seconds. Iterate the optimal design based on element performances.

Code Checking

Apply target code values or check relevant Codes in your project location and review compliance to quickly understand impacts of your design decisions on code requirements.

Construction Types

Choose from a palette of typical early-stage construction configurations for envelope components and see how it affects your code compliance. Select better performing elements to assist with code compliance if required.

Performances

Understand how your façade design and material selections affect performances such as heat loss, passive solar heat gains and daylight factor, for the entire building or on a façade-by-façade basis, across the year. Results will adjust as different material types are selected for walls, glazing, roofs and floors.

Shading Strategies

Understand how self-shading, shading from surrounding buildings and shade devices impact performance and explore alternative shading strategies to control Heat Gain and manage Daylighting. Existing surrounds, added shade devices and the design of the building itself will be factored in to reduce the results for Heat Gain and Daylight. Charts can be reviewed to determine the optimal shade depths.

Export Model to Revit

Coming Soon! Export your Forma model to Revit, and generate a detailed model with glazed openings and the appropriate Revit constructions to quickly build a Revit version of your model.

This model can then be analyzed in FenestraPro for Revit if required (fully functional trial versions available.)
